Like I have said before, our kitchen was in pretty good shape when we moved in but it needed some updating. The previous owners had a nice valance over the main window in the kitchen. It was in really good shape but it just wasn’t my style…felt a little dated to me. A valance updo was in order!
These dressers have found a new home and are SOLD. Weren’t they beautiful thought?!
I have been on the search for dressers that I could rehab on Craigslist for a while now. I really loved the transformation Homey Oh My! did to the Ikea Malm Dresser. I have looked a lot for the Malm dresser on Craigslist but they are few and far between. I think a lot of people like to rehab them so they are hard to find. I talked with my husband about this and he refuses to let me buy the dressers because he’s tired of pressboard furniture. We have moved many times and have had many things break in the process because pressboard just doesn’t hold up.
My mom was in town about a month ago and we were searching Craigslist non stop to find the perfect dressers, couches, futons etc. As I have said before we had family come into town for Thanksgiving so we wanted to get furniture for our basement on an affordable budget. I think every night my husband and I were out picking up furniture while my mom stayed home with the baby. We were able to score a futon and a couch for the basement for $100. We were pretty stoked about that!
My mom came across this listing on craigslist for two dressers and it was kind of an estate sale situation. It looked like they were a solid piece of furniture and had similar lines to the Ikea Malm Dresser. The guy said to email him and name your price. I wrote the guy and he accepted my offer so the next day my husband and I went to pick them up. We barely were able to fit them into my small SUV but we made it happen. We got them home and I cleaned them up and they were the perfect size for our bedroom. I couldn’t wait to start refinishing them but Thanksgiving was only a few days away so I figured I would wait until after the Holiday.Read More
This is by far my favorite project I have done to date! I was really getting tired of all my dark furniture. Everything was black! When we bought our house I really wanted to brighten things up. I started working on the table makeover before we moved. Here are some pictures of the table before I started to work on it:
When my husband and I bought our house our kitchen was fairly updated. It had granite counter tops, new laminate flooring, and a tile backsplash. It wasn’t that bad of a kitchen but I knew that I wanted to do little things to update it a bit.
After a lot of convincing my husband and lots of research, I decided to start by painting the tile. We couldn’t afford a whole new backsplash so we figured we could make a small change and if we hated it we could eventually replace the backsplash. Thankfully, we ended up loving it and have no plans to replace it at this point. I got the idea of painting the backsplash from 11 Magnolia Lane’s Blog from a pin on Pinterest. It was a small budgeted tile transformation that we loved!Read More
This week has been such a great Holiday! My husband and I hosted our first Thanksgiving in our new home and I have to say it was a successful Thanksgiving! I feel so grown up! 🙂
We have always lived in apartments so it has always been cramped when family comes to visit. We have gradually increased our square footage of living space in the past year. When we lived in California we lived in a small but beautiful apartment in Aliso Viejo that was around 900 square feet. When my husband got the job in Minnesota we only had a weekend to find a place to live. We decided to rent because we didn’t know exactly where we wanted to live and we also needed to research the school districts a little more. Our last place we visited ended up being the one! It was a wonderful townhome that features 2 beds, 2 baths, and a loft. It was perfect and we were stoked to go from 900 square feet to 1,700 square feet.
Within a few months we were already starting to grow out of the townhome. Children sure do take up a lot of space! We decided it was time to maybe start looking for a house. We went to many open houses and then started working with a realtor. I was obsessed with looking at houses online…probably too obsessed. 😉 We only saw a few houses with our realtor and then fell in love with our current house. It all happened very quickly and we decided to put in an offer while we were visiting friends in Wisconsin over Memorial Day Weekend. Within 2 days of negotiating, they accepted our offer and I immediately started decorating our house in my head. We were fortunate enough to have scored a 5 bedroom, 2,600 square foot home. We were not looking for this large of a home but it was in our price range so why not?!
