Well after two flight delays and then a flight cancellation and weekend full of singing I’m back in the comfort of my own home! It’s always hard to get back into the swing of things after a weekend a way. And the stress of a cancelled flight doesn’t help at all! I’m back and I’m safe and that’s all that maters in the end! (Just an FYI, don’t ever fly Spirit Airlines…they have terrible costumer service and they don’t care about their costumers! Needless to say, I will never fly Spirit ever again!)
Okay I’ll get off my soapbox now and talk about my fun Delilah weekend! I had a wonderful weekend in LA rehearsing with my amazing quartet, Delilah. We are preparing for the International competition in Las Vegas in October. Around 50 quartets from around the world compete for the title of Quartet Champions. If you win you also get a shiny crown to wear! Here is the current 2015 Champions, Bling!
Quartets are comprised of 4 parts:
Bass – the lowest voice (Merideth)
Baritone – they fill in the missing notes to create chords (Erin)
Lead – the melody (Ruthie…Me!)
Tenor – the highest voice (Neyla)
The first round of competition begins on Wednesday of the convention and all the quartets compete with two contestable barbershop songs. At the end of the day, the top 10 highest scoring quartets are announced and they will compete again on Friday. On Friday the quartets prepare up to a 15 minute entertainment set where you sing at least 1 contestable song and 2-3 other acapella songs. You also have to add some MC work in there to tie it all together. Here is an example of an entertainment package for the finals…this is my previous quartet Dolce.
We are super excited and have been trying to figure out our repertoire for the contest! I wanted to share with you all a couple songs we have been working on!
This first song is called “When I Lift Up My Head.” It’s a fun, gospel song that is sung quite often in the barbershop world!
The second song “To Make You Feel My Love” was originally written and performed by Bob Dylan but made popular again by Adele.

I loved watching and listening to your group. What talent!
Hubby and I just watched Pitch Perfect 1 & 2 so it was neat to read about someone who actually does this.
