Pretty much as we speak I am in the process of painting our kitchen cabinets. I have always dreamt of a beautiful white kitchen and had every intention of painting my kitchen cabinets white when we bought a house. When we moved in our house in July of 2014 I wanted to paint the cabinets but my husband and mom convinced me to live with it for a while. They weren’t a terrible wood color so I thought I could manage without painting. Well it’s been a year and a half and I still wanted to paint them….so I started the process!
The previous owners of our house lived here for 17 years so it was a little outdated in styles and just needed a little updating. It was not a fixer upper by any means but it did need some TLC. Here are some pictures of our house from when our house was listed on the market. The first photo was taken by Edina Realty.
The first thing we did to update the space was paint our tile backsplash…yes PAINT! Frankly, I was not in the mood to put in new backsplash nor was it in our budget. It was a little trial and error but you can see the how to here.
The next major change was to paint the walls. We changed out the lime green with my favorite color of all time, Requisite Gray by Sherwin Williams. I believe this is the best gray out there! It’s more of a taupey gray and looks great in daytime and night time. It doesn’t feel cold and it’s well…perfect!
Since the day we started looking for a house I wanted a white kitchen. I knew it was something I was going to have to do because about every home in Minnesota has the same oak cabinets. I knew how huge of a task painting cabinets was so I decided to live with it a while and see if it would grow on me. I even tried to exchange out the hardware. It did help a lot but I still had a white kitchen stuck on my brain.
Currently, as we speak, I am painting and sanding our kitchen cabinets. It’s quite the task. Do I love doing this? No. Is it worth it? Yes.
Over the large window by our kitchen table is a valance. I loved the idea of the valance as it had so much potential to be something really beautiful. I was not a fan of the current fabric so I took maters into my own hands and redid it. I love the blue ikat pattern and pop of color it gives to that area of the kitchen. You can see the tutorial here.
Also lights can go a long way to help change a space! I have changed out almost every light fixture in my home. Here are a couple I changed out in the kitchen.
Our appliances were a little dated and I’m happy to say we just got them replaced. I can’t wait to share with you the final transformation of our kitchen in a couple weeks! I think the new appliances and white cabinets are going to make it a beautiful kitchen that I’m going to love spending time in!
Here’s a little sneak peak of the painted kitchen cabinets!!
Sorry iPhone pic 🙂
I hope everyone has a great weekend and send good thoughts and positive vibes my way while I do this kitchen! Hopefully I wan’t die of painting! Haha Happy Friday! TGIF!
