Hi everyone! I apologize for being MIA the past week. I have been in Colorado visiting some friends and also rehearsing with my new quartet, Delilah! I belong to an organization called Sweet Adelines International. I would love to share with you a little bit about my hobby and passion for Barbershop music!
“Sweet Adelines International is a highly respected worldwide organization of women singers committed to advancing the musical art form of barbershop harmony through education, competition and performance. This independent, nonprofit music education association is one of the world’s largest singing organizations for women.
Members extend over five continents and belong to more than 500 choruses and 1,200 quartets. Sweet Adelines choruses and quartets sing exciting a cappella, four-part harmony music, barbershop style. The music includes special arrangements of today’s ballads, classic songs, popular show tunes and mainstream music. Members say that singing the powerfully balanced sounds of barbershop harmony provides a rich, rewarding experience.” (Taken from SAI)
It’s a pretty amazing organization and I have sung in multiple choruses and quartets throughout my 8 years of being a member. I joined the organization in college and started by singing with a young women’s group named, Stiletto. We formed in college when we all were attending the University of Northern Colorado. We competed in a few different competitions and placed 2nd in the Rising Star Competition. The Rising Star competition is for female quartets aged 25 and under. The Rising Star Competition is comprised of many quartets from around the world competing for the title of Rising Star Quartet Champion.
A year later I moved to California and started a new group called, Vogue. I was 25 years old and it was my last year to compete in the Rising Star Competition. We were fortunate enough to win the competition and become the 2009 Rising Star Quartet Champions! It was a moment in my life that I will remember forever!
Quartets come and go and people move on for various reasons and a couple years later I formed a group called Dolce. We were very successful and won the Regional competition our first year together, which qualified us for the International competition.
We then competed a few months later at the International competition and we moved onto the finals round and placed 10th in the world! It was pretty surreal and was another moment that will always be a huge milestone in my life! Below is our set from the finals round.
So I know that was a little bit of a video overload but I want to share my journey with you all and I hope my current quartet has a long road ahead of us. I’m singing with my best friends and I can’t wait to compete next month at our first competition together. This competition will determine if we qualify for the International competition. After our competition I will definitely share the video with you as well as our results! Wish us luck and send my new group, Delilah quartet good vibes on April 17th when we compete! If you want to follow along to our happenings check us out on Facebook! I’ll be back to posting about my home and projects later this week but I wanted to share my passion for barbershop and what a huge part of my life it is!
