One Room Challenge Week 3 Bathroom Progress - www.refashionablylate.com

Well, this week has been interesting at our house.  My daughter woke up throwing up on Wednesday morning and then was her normal little self the rest of the day.  We’ve continued to monitor and all seemed fine.  Saturday we decided to go to a pumpkin patch and had a great time and Lucy seemed like a normal little girl.

All things were great until about 4 am on Sunday morning.  She woke up yet again throwing up.  This time it lasted about 4 hours rather than 1.  So needless to say we are laying low today and projects have been delayed.  Oh well….life happens huh?!

Another small bump in the road this week is that my tile guy who was supposed to come today to install our beautiful Carrara Marble Tile had to cancel. 🙁  I’ve hopefully found someone else that can do it next week so keep your fingers crossed for me.  We originally were going to install it on our own but decided to hire someone as we’ve never tiled before and didn’t want to mess up this beautiful tile. Carrara marble can yellow if not done properly.  I guess for the first time we felt it was better to leave it to the experts.

As you know I’m a little crazy and doing two rooms for this Fall’s One Room Challenge.  Here is the progress of the rooms if you’ve missed it:

Bathroom

Week 1  |  Week 2

Nursery

Week 1  |  Week 2

This week we decided to focus on the electrical components of the bathroom.  My husband didn’t really know much about electrical work when we moved into this house but he sure is getting good at it now! We’ve changed almost every light fixture in our home and all of the outlets and switches on our top floor. He’s becoming quite the pro! 🙂

Here is a sneak peek of the beautiful new light fixture that was installed.  We decided to go with the Possini Euro Design Wrapped Wire 39″ Wide Bathroom Light from LampsPlus.  I love the modern touch the light gives to our bathroom and I love how unique it is with the wrapped wire!  Gorg!

After the walls are painted I can’t wait to hang this beauty also from LampsPlus.  It’s an absolutely stunning mirror!

We also installed new light switches and outlets.  The only tub in our house is in the main bathroom and I really wanted to install a dimmer switch so that when I want to relax I can dim the lights and take a bath.  I’m quite obsessed with Legrand’s, the adorne collection, and love how they update your home.  If you missed my previous post, Finding Beauty in the Small Things, I shared how they have changed the look of the upper level of our home.  Along with the dimmer switch, we installed a touch switch for the fan and then a GFCI plus size outlet.  I wanted a larger outlet because my hair dryer has a large plugin so I wanted the room to plug in both my hair dryer and straightener.  Priorities right?!  We then went with the Mirror White wall plates.

With the electrical work done now, I can focus on getting some of the painting done.  I’m hoping to finish painting the countertops for next week!  Wish me luck!

Here is where we are at with our to-do list:

  • Paint bathroom cabinets & trim
  • Paint vanity countertops
  • Rip out previous linoleum (2 layers..fun!)
  • Tile floor & wall
  • Remove medicine cabinet & cabinet above toilet
  • Replace mirror
  • Replace light fixture
  • Change outlets & switches
  • Repair holes in the wall from cabinet removal & towel bars
  • Paint walls
  • Replace toilet paper holder and towel rod
  • Replace faucet

Well, that’s it for this week’s progress and I can’t believe we are halfway through this Fall’s One Room Challenge.  Man, this goes quickly!  So much to do and so little time!  I want to thank my sponsors again for helping make this transformation possible.

Well that’s no fun with your daughter throwing up. Sounds like this week was slowed down by a few things! Hopefully your tile goes in next week with no problems

My name is Ruthie, I was born and raised in the Midwest.  I met the man of my dreams in Nashville, TN and decided to follow him back home to California.  First came love, then came marriage, then came the baby in the baby carriage.  My husband got a new job when my daughter was 2 months old and we packed up and moved halfway across the country to Minnesota, back to my homeland. We now have two beautiful little girls.
