One Room Challenge Week 4 Progress Bathroom - www.refashionablylate.com

Well it’s been an interesting week over here and of course life got in the way of my One Room Challenge preparation!  I had every intention of getting this post up yesterday but I ended up in the hospital with multiple contractions.  I was secretly hoping we’d come home with a baby but unfortunately we were discharged.  I had at least 70-80 contractions yesterday but there was no progress downstairs so my doctor felt I could go home and relax.  Hopefully these are signs of early labor and my body will having this baby soon!  Today I’m 36 weeks and the nurse said she’d be surprised if I didn’t go within the next couple weeks!  We will see!  Fingers crossed!

Well onto the bathroom progress for this week!  If you missed the previous weeks of both of my transformations you can catch up below:

This last week I worked on transforming our cabinet counter.  It was a basic countertop and it wasn’t terrible but I just wasn’t digging it!  I wanted the look of marble without the marble price so I decided to paint it!  Giani Granite has a great line of faux marble paints in all different colors and styles.  I decided to go with the White Diamond Kit for our bathroom transformation.

The whole process is quite easy and their website has tons of video tutorials which are super helpful. Before I explain the process in detail here is a reminder of what my vanity looked like before.

Alright now to the fun part…after you prep your space properly according to the directions you paint the entire countertop with the black primer.  (Special note:  I misread and this is not to be used inside of sinks so do not follow my lead by doing so!  Imagine the sink isn’t done in the next few photos! :))

It recommends to tape off areas that you don’t want to get paint on but since we were planning to paint the walls anyway I didn’t worry about it.  The next step is to use the sponge provided and cover the space with the Pearl Mica color.

Then you add on step 2-B Inca Gold.

Lastly, you put on step 2-C White Limestone.  You can always go back and add the other colors too to make it look more realistic.  I also added some “cracks” in the stone as white granite has imperfections like that.  Like I had mentioned before they have some really great video tutorials explaining the entire process.  Here is the video for the White Diamond Kit:

Since I wasn’t smart and painted the sink I then had some help from my mom and we chipped the paint away in the sink and sanded it.  Then my mom painted it with Rust-Oleum Tub and Tile Refinishing Kit. If you are expecting like me hand this job over to someone else as it’s quite the smelly job!  Thanks, Mom!

Now here is a sneak peek to how it all turned out!  I don’t have the walls painted yet and the faucet isn’t put back on so you’ll get the full effect at the final reveal!  I love how it turned out and the price of painting your vanity is so much better than buying brand new marble!

I can’t wait to show you how it all turned out at the final reveal in two weeks but you can head over to Giani’s website and see tons of real transformations from people that have used their product!  Click here to see their photo gallery of completed projects!  Follow them on social media as well to see the ongoing transformations!

Here is where we are at with our to-do list:

  • Paint bathroom cabinets & trim
  • Paint vanity countertops
  • Rip out previous linoleum (2 layers..fun!)
  • Tile floor & wall
  • Remove medicine cabinet & cabinet above toilet
  • Replace mirror
  • Replace light fixture
  • Change outlets & switches
  • Repair holes in the wall from cabinet removal & towel bars
  • Paint walls
  • Replace toilet paper holder and towel rod
  • Replace faucet

Again thank you to all of my sponsor throughout this makeover!

Have a great rest of your week and last week is the last update before the final reveal!  I’m so ready for both of these rooms to be finished and then I can sit back and relax and wait for this baby to make its arrival!

mother holding baby in the air and going for a kiss

My name is Ruthie, I was born and raised in the Midwest.  I met the man of my dreams in Nashville, TN and decided to follow him back home to California.  First came love, then came marriage, then came the baby in the baby carriage.  My husband got a new job when my daughter was 2 months old and we packed up and moved halfway across the country to Minnesota, back to my homeland. We now have two beautiful little girls.
