Pantry Organization - www.refashionablylate.com

Today I’m teaming up with 4 other bloggers to share with you some great organizational tips for the new year!  The new year is all about resolutions and everyone wants to start the year off on the right foot!  I know I’m that way!  I go into total organization and cleaning mode at the beginning of the year.  I feel if things are organized and pretty, my life will feel less stressful.

Today I’m sharing with you my pantry organization.  I organized my pantry all for under $35!  Thanks to the dollar store, organization has become much more affordable!  Here is what our pantry looked like before it’s mini makeover!

As you can see in the second pic the doors were removed and the woodwork was taped off.  We just finished the huge task of painting our kitchen cabinets!  I can’t wait to share with you our end results but you will see another sneak peak of it here today.  The pantry was in preparation to be painted.

Back to the pantry organization…I made a couple different trips to the dollar store, Dollar Tree to be exact, and started collecting different shapes and sizes of bins.  They have a few different color of bins and I went with the color blue as it is one of my favorite colors to decorate with!  I talked about my favorite colors to design with yesterday in our Behind the Blogger series along with my thoughts on design.

I started by removing everything, and I mean EVERYTHING, from the pantry.  As I removed each item I checked the expiration date…sure enough there were plenty of items that needed to go in the trash.  That alone made for lots of room in the pantry.  We have a very deep pantry and it’s easy for things to get lost.  I then laid out all of the baskets on my kitchen table and started grouping like items together in the baskets. This way it makes it easier to find an item since they are grouped with similar items.  I doubled up on the baskets by having one in the back and one in the front since I have a deep pantry.  Everything has a place and I’m loving it!  Now I just have to make sure my husband puts everything back in it’s spot! 🙂  I plan on labeling the fronts of the baskets soon so that it stays neatly organized.

The last step to my pantry organization was to cover up the ugly press board shelves.  I hate the way it looked so I found some ribbon that was the perfect size to glue onto the fronts of the shelves.  I used a hot glue gun to adhere the ribbon onto the fronts.  I love how it gives an extra splash of color and interest to my pantry.

The only item I purchased besides the bins was the can organizer.  You can find my can organizer here.  I will say it’s not the most amazing quality but for the size of my shelf this was the only one that fit.  It works just fine and holds my cans in a more organized way.

Ruthie, I love the little ribbon you added to the front of the shelves. I am without a pantry right now because my husband tore mine out for a kitchen reno. Pinning this for the day my kitchen is put back together, hopefully soon!

That’s no fun you don’t have a pantry right now but super exciting for a kitchen renovation! 🙂

Ruthie! It looks beautiful! I love the bright & bold blue with the fresh white exterior. It’s amazing what a few dollars can do to transform (and organize!) so many different types of spaces. I am in love with the Dollar Tree 😉 Great job! -Rachael

My name is Ruthie, I was born and raised in the Midwest.  I met the man of my dreams in Nashville, TN and decided to follow him back home to California.  First came love, then came marriage, then came the baby in the baby carriage.  My husband got a new job when my daughter was 2 months old and we packed up and moved halfway across the country to Minnesota, back to my homeland. We now have two beautiful little girls.
