‘Tis the Season! Christmas is my favorite time of the year! It’s even more fun now that I get to watch it through my daughter’s eyes! She is hilarious and when we ask what Santa says she tries to say “Ho, ho, ho” in a guttural voice. It’s so sweet! She loves to talk like Santa but she sure didn’t love meeting Santa this year. Last year she was only a few months old so it was no problem….now that she is 15 months old she didn’t really want anything to do with him.
I love decorating for the Holiday and it has been fun doing so in our new home. I didn’t put up as many decorations as normal because some areas of our home aren’t finished so I didn’t feel the need to decorate it. I also feel that a lot of my decorations are dated and I’m in major need of new and updated decorations. Hopefully after Christmas I can score some good Christmas sales!
The little things I did I loved. A great and simple tip is to put bows on things that you normally wouldn’t think of. I added bows to lamps, wreaths, candles and my tree. I normally do a garland of ribbon on my tree but decided to change it up.
I had a lot of fun decorating with some of my favorite decorations and tried to get creative with where I placed them. I have this beautiful large hammered plate that I rigged a hanging plate mount. I searched online for a large enough plate mount and they were all either too expensive or not big enough. I had many regular sized plate mounts so I decided to make my own! I took the springs off the plate mount and replaced them with two smaller bungee cords. It works perfectly and I put a nail in the wall and hung it!
One of my favorite pieces is this beaded garland that I usually set on a table with a candle in front of it. I wanted to do something different so I tied it onto my hammered plate and added a bow…voila I LOVE IT!
I also had these beautiful large glitter ornaments and I really wanted to hang them from my dining room chandelier but just wasn’t sure how! I decided to use fishing line and hung them from the center! I love how it turned out and it is so simple!
I am in love with flameless candles but they have to have a timer. I will not remember to turn them on everyday so the timer is a godsend. I have some really fun glittery candles for the holiday and one that I use all year round. I decided to put some extra ornaments in a bowl surrounding the candle. This candle is especially amazing because it has a fake wick. It moves around with a light flickering and everyone is stunned when they figure out it’s not a real candle. It’s a little spendy but so worth it in my opinion. I really want to buy more so I can put them in other areas of my home. You can find this particular candle on Amazon.
My mom gave me this beautiful antique Nativity Set that I use to love as a kid. I always would go in the living room and play with it during the Holidays. I am very proud to display this at my own home now. I originally set it up on a side table near the couch but little hands got to it so I moved it to the china cabinet. (Let me also say how much harder it was to decorate this year because I had to think about if Lucy would get into things or not. We decorated our tree one night and ended up taking off the decorations on the bottom third of the tree…or I guess Lucy did).
Here are a few of the other decorations around my home.
And my most beautiful decoration of all….
What are some fun things you have done with decorations around your home?
